Whitworth
The land Whitworth sits on today was the original Richland County Club until 1991 when Richland relocated to a larger campus off Granny White. A developer bought the open land that was once the 18 hole golf course and built single family homes.
The old Richland pool, outdoor and indoor tennis courts were purchased separately by Hillwood County Club as a satellite campus. Hillwood was land locked on acquiring more property and needed to compete with the indoor tennis that Richland was building and Belle Meade County Club already had. Confused yet? Let’s keep going…
Location
Whitworth sits next to I-440 in the West End neighborhood. Residents can access the community via gates along Bowling Avenue, Elmington Avenue, and Sharondale Drive that require a code for entry. It’s honestly a perfect location for a Vandy doctor with little time for yardwork but a need to get to the hospital in 5-10 minutes.
The Homes
Properties include red-brick ranchers, two-story Colonials, and custom-built homes inspired by French Country style. Some houses in the central and southern parts offer views of Whitworth's ponds. Indoor square footage ranges between 3,000 and 6,500 feet, with prices ranging from the $800s to $2 million.
The Amenities
The amenities are limited to walking trails and a pond (but I wouldn’t fish in it). Hillwood’s Whitworth Campus has limited memberships with access to the Pool (summer only) or access to the Pool, Whitworth Tennis and Whitworth fitness. Both options require an application process, fees and monthly dues not associated with the Whitworth neighborhood.
Pros: Location with I-440 connecting all the corridors, gated community, affordable HOA , low maintenance lifestyle and minimal yardwork
Cons: Limited amenities, small lots
